Yep, if you want CD's and choose not to use iTunes (you don't need an iPod) to burn them or buy Nero and use that then no Audible books for you that way.

IIRC many Archos work with WMA DRM. If you have a public library that offers audiobook downloads (OverDrive does DRM'd WMA or MP3 depending) that might be an option for you.
