Here it's not so much the deliberate scratching (the rope-wound scratchposts and bathmat do for that), but the rapid, repeated clambering-up-and-over that happens at Kitty-Skitterin' Time. Leather would last about five minutes, but dark-coloured microfibre seems to be a little more resilient.
