I guess I fixed it. I just have to not hit enter when spacing down for the author's name for the quote. If I hold Shift+enter, it spaces down the same way, but does not "break" for a new paragraph. Not sure how/why, but this seems to preserve my shading box just fine. Hopefully this will help anyone else who needs this info. Thanks!
