It sounds like the book publisher forgot to embed the fonts and just added it to the CSS.
I just tested it in Kindle app and it works great too.

Why in hell would Amazon not place the Turn On/Off Publisher Font option in the Font menu like they did on the Kindles and on the iOS app? Amazon is certainly inconsistent between development groups!
At any rate, it has no effect in either the Android or the iOS apps. In the Android app, if an embedded font exists in the personal doc then that font is displayed regardless of how you set the Turn On/Off Publisher Font option. In the iOS app, even if an embedded font exists in the personal doc that font is never displayed regardless of how you set the Turn On/Off Publisher Font option. The Turn On/Off Publisher Font option is a major FAIL in both apps as it provides absolutely no control whatever!
