Given that you want a mostly Nexus experience, I would choose one of these:

For top end: Nexus 5 or Moto X
For mid/low range: Moto G

Now that Moto are Google owned, they've dropped their skin and offer a pure Android experience, with a couple of useful apps on top. They're also rolling out updates quickly, helped by the fact that they don't have to merge their ugly skin on top of Google's code, so they're worth considering. That said, I'd still go with the N5 for a top of the line phone.

I would stay clear of the skinned versions (Samsung, LG, Sony, ...) unless you would consider a play edition (which I believe are not sold outside the US).
