Brian has the same problem. The Nexus 7 is not defected it's the app that is broken. Have you even read any of the reviews on it? All other apps behave as it's suppose to it's the Kindle app that is broken. I submitted a bug report and I will wait to hear back from Amazon.

Then uninstall the Kindle reading app and use another app to read your eBooks. There must be plenty of choices out there.
If Amazon recognizes the problem and then fixes the app, you can always re-install it at that time.
