It gives me different options
The first thing I'd do after creating the "catalog book" would be to save the CSV to my desktop. Now I can work on it independently of the calibre library
  • If I wanted to keep the sorted spreadsheet, I would save as XLSX (2007 and higher), or XLS (2003 and lower) to the desktop
  • If I wanted a PDF, I would create one on the desktop direct from Excel using my "Bullzip printer"
  • If I wanted to keep the PDF I would drop it on the "catalog book" Book Details in Calibre
  • If I wanted to keep the XLSX I would add it to the "catalog book" via calibre's Add file to selected book records (Shift/A) option.

Then I would delete whatever is on the the desktop, and if I added the XLSX to the "catalog book" then I'd remove the CSV - no point in keeping both of them.
