Thank for the explanantion Peter but I don't really understand what you have said.

The KOBO Utilities Plug In, I have installed it but I don't really understand it and can't bring up the database at all. It keeps wanting me to customise it, which I don't want to do as a) I don't understand it and b) generally I don't want to use it.

I found the kobo ereader config file but mine displays in notebook as one giant paragraph so no idea where or how to add in the line SyncShelves=false or what i need between the other commands, i.e dots, dashes etc

I have located [ApplicationPreferences] its part of this bit

so do i just insert SyncShelves=false like this
