As far as symlinks go, I believe I read somewhere but I can't figure out where, that Dropbox cannot tell when files are modified when they are hidden behind a symlink (this is Windows' fault) so it only syncs symlinked files upon startup.
Oh no I am not syncing shortcuts on Dropbox just files and folders and what happened was I was getting rejected by server error and didn't know it because it no longer notifies you if there is error so while the folders all have green checks in them they weren't really on the DB's server.

I just happen to look at the right click menu and saw it reject my latest sync. I had come to trust Dropbox as I have never had issue before and now I am leery. I wonder if it's because I am at 80% of my space.
