Photo shoot time.
Although still waiting for the lead free, solder paste to arrive -
Here is a preview of the serial port connector kit in this post's attachments.
The Dime is in the photo as a reference to the size of the kit.
The kit is packed in a clear, Size 0, Gell Cap (with the missing solder paste).
The two colorful capsules are "user supplied" (as is the Dime) headache remedies.
Not strictly required, but recommended to have available.
On the right, the board mount connector body.
(Excedrin headache #1)
The metal strip holds the three wire terminals to be crimped to the cable end. These terminals accept either 30 gage or 28 gage wire.
(Excedrin headache #2 ... #4)
Terminals then are inserted into the cable end connector, seen about center in the kit.
(Excedrin headache #5).
Not shown in this picture - the small dab of solder paste and the cotton pad that keeps the small parts out of the solder paste during shipment.
The connector body has five solder points, two support and the three matching serial port pads.
If you have a micro-SD card handy, look at the Center-to-Center spacing of the contacts -
Those are 1.1mm CtC.
The Kindle's serial port pads are a very generous 1.2mm CtC.
Note: At least some Kindle-Touches already have the board mount connector in place.
Note: Be careful not to swallow parts kit.
