Argh, you are right. Should have checked it. What I said is true for comicrak, comic tagger etc. which could all read cbr but not write to.
I think calibre does not do this, because there is no easy way it could see something is a comic and it could be problematic to just extract images from a mobi or epub.
What the original poster could do, is either open the mobi with kindleunpack and hope that all the images are sequential named. Then just copy them somewhere and zip/rar them. Another possibility is to convert it with calibre to zip, open the zip and copy the images from there to make a cbz/cbr.
