It does not need to be the battery that's duff, even if that's the most obvious explanation.
It could be the cable and, the charger or the connection with the PC.
Definitely try with another cable and from another USB port, or the mains before you give up. Else, I believe Booxtor's shop in Germany, sells spare batteries if you are in the EU, or if you figure out the model, you might find something that works on eBay.
