I have used (multiple models) PS2 to USB on a older Symbol laser barcode scanner.
Way slower than when connected as a PS2 Keyboard wedge (the Laptop does not have PS2), but it does not require tat a keyboard be present on the Wedge PS2 port
All this stuff is available IN Fry's (a west coast chain)
