Serial to parallel? Not a chance in heck. I think if that pic has a chance of being real, that must be a f/f 25-pin gender changer going to a 25-pin serial port. But I doubt it....

Actually, Apple does apparently build some authentication circuit in to some cables, like the 30-pin composite video cable. My old iPod Video from the Less Evil Days seems to work with all the cheap 3rd-party stuff, newer devices not so much.

Speaking of which, if any one has a full-size-DVI-to-VGA or -to-HDMI adapter they'd like to get rid of for the used Macbook Pro I just ordered, let me know!
