Thanks for the warning. I double checked and I was charged correctly. FWIW I signed up through the referral link not the direct one and I had cancelled my membership a few days ago (when a 3 month trial ran out) not immediately before signing up.

I'm surprised Audible, being a part of Amazon, has so many snafus like this.
