Speaking for myself, I have no problem in principle for charging for major updates. I bought Office 2007 and then paid again for Office 2010 without a qualm.

The problem here seems to be that people paid for a pro version with certain features and now the system is actively trying to move them to a new version which lacks those features. It's trying to force an "update" people feel is a downgrade on customers who don't want it.
