Right you have to be logged into a Microsoft account to use apps. While I do this on mobile devices I refuse to do this on a computer so I yesterday I googled and found a way to switch to a local account which is just like the ones on Vista or Windows 7. I have no intention of using apps I only need my Desktop area.
Classic Shell was made just for Windows 8

It's awesome. Doesn't seem to be a resource hog either like some add ons can be.
