If you enjoy Ambrose's book (and I'm sure you will), you might want to look at Gary E. Moulton's abridgement of his own mammoth The Definitive Journals of Lewis & Clark (and this links to a set at an amazingly good price).

The Lewis and Clark Journals (Abridged Edition): An American Epic of Discovery

I have the Definitive Journals in paper, but the 12 volumes are really only interesting to researchers. The Abridged version is a delight to read and Mr. Moultan has kept the original idiosyncratic spellings (especially of William Clark).
