As part of a general reorganisation and clearout of my data, I uninstalled Calibre and deleted its library from disk. Having then gathered all my e-book files and organised them I installed a fresh copy of Calibre and started to add my books to the new library.

I quickly became confused because Calibre was telling me that many of the books were 'Already in Calibre'. Examination of the new library didn't show them.

The only explanation I can think of is that the uninstallation left data in the registry (Windows 7) and the new installation still thinks it has the old library.

Am I on the right track here and, if so, how can I clear it for a completely fresh start?
