Anyone, know how it is supposed to work?

The "images" and "slideshow" folders are gone, as well.

Putting an old "slideshow" folder back into .kobo has it working again.
The FW 3.1.0 KoboRoot.tgz has a slideshow folder but it didn't put it in my .kobo directory.
Not that it would have worked as it only has "kraken", "pixie", and "trilogy" folders, no dragon folder. The new Aura could use the images in the "kraken" folder, as they have the same display size, IIRC.
As far as I can recall, the only way to get the dragon slideshow folder back was to do a factory reset on an Aura HD. None of the firmware revisions included that folder in the slideshow folder. Once you have that folder, "demo mode on" works in 3.1.0 as before. There is a .kobo-images directory which has a collection of subdirectories in which the image files for books on the internal storeage are kept. I'm guessing that Kobo is using a hashing algorithm for faster access.

At one point, I replaced the 10 .png images with 10 of my own for a personalized slideshow. Fun to look at the first couple of times but rapidly lost it's lustre.

David
