Might also want to check into an open source program called Classic Shell. I use it on Windows 7 to get a few things to act more like WinXP. I thought one of their recent updates was to put a Start Menu button back in Windows 8....
It's highly customizable - so you can keep the things you like in the new OS. For example, one of the things in Classic Shell for Windows 7 was to make the behavior for copying files look more like it did in WinXP. I *liked* the fact that it now gives you options when it finds duplicates, so I didn't use that tweak. But apparently it was something that bugged a lot of people (based on what I saw on the Classic Shell web page).
