Dark Eden won the Clarke Award, I believe, so you'd hope there's something to it. I'm pretty sure I have it myself, but I haven't read it.
Having finished Mark Billngham's Sleepyhead, which was so-so, I have finally started The System of the World by Neal Stephenson. This is the last part of the Baroque trilogy, and I've been putting it off for years because of its intimidating size, but I'm trying to (a) finish a few series I have left dangling, (b) clear up some of my more unwieldy paperbacks, and (c) read the Locus SF Award winners, so it seemed it was finally time. I'm enjoying it, but it is quite dense and slow. It could very well last me the rest of the year.
