Changing covers problem!
Guys, I want to change some ugly covers on ebooks I’ve purchased from amazon to those of the original paperbacks, but I have been unable to achieve this using the deDRM plugins loaded in calibre, which I learned about recently.
- I know: you’re not supposed to talk about DRM, but I emphasize I’m trying to remove it because that seems to be the only way to achieve my original goal of changing the covers. These are ebooks I’ve paid for and I’m NOT trying to give them to anyone else or view them on any other device other than my own Kindle Paperwhite…
Following the advice on a certain person’s blog I have removed and de-registered Kindle for PC – which I had already done weeks ago after experimenting briefly with it – and have deleted both my \AppData\Local\Amazon folder as well as my \MyDocuments\My Kindle Content folder. He follows this advise with the words ‘ you don’t have to use K-for-PC if you don’t want to’(?) but seems to state earlier in his blog that it is required Do I NEED to re-install Kindle for PC for this process to work? The blog doesn’t make this 100% clear. If so, does it need to be installed *before* calibre – in other words, do I have to uninstall calibre, install K-for-PC and re-install calibre and then download/install the deDRM plugins? I have a Paperwhite, and do not read – and have no desire to read – ebooks on my PC.
As things stand I can import ebooks and edit the metadata easily, but despite successfully converting - in this case - azw3’s into epub before changing the cover, converting to epub to *preserve* the alteration and thence back to azw3 and finally saving it my ‘new’ covers still aren’t displayed on my PW. All I get is the generic Kindle cover, not the new one or even the old one. Is there something about the cover files themselves that I’m missing? I am baffled. Everything seems to be right, but still no luck
