Not true. The time taken to load ePub books is independent of their overall size, since only a single "flow" is loaded into memory at any given time. A similar thing applies to Kindle books.
At the dawn of time there were readers like the Sony PRS-505 which would "paginate" a book when it was first opened, and the time taken to do that was dependent on the size of the book, but I don't know of any current reader which does anything similar.
Do you have any evidence to support your assertion that large books take longer to open?
