I started out with reb100 in 1999 (still have it, but can't use it that much cant find books other than public domain to add to it now); then a sony 600--love it, but have to side load all books, added a kobo wireless in 2010, love the kobo, can download books directly from the site or sideload ebooks purchased elsewhere, got the nook color in 2011, love it, same thing, not locked into bn and can purchase or download ebooks from anywhere,of course calibre came in handy with the sony, nook and kobo. Received nook tablet hd+ and can't say enough positive things about it, very versatile in all that it can do besides being used as an ereader and then 3 weeks ago, on a whim decided to purchase a nextbook android tablet, for the money, it does what its supposed to do, all of these ereader/tablets that i have do not lock me into one place to buy my ebooks.
I never wanted a kindle or kindle fire, I didn't want to be locked into Amazon, although I do make many purchases through my android apps, so probably won't ever own a kindle. You never know, so many changes are being made, I may want to try a kindle, but have learned to prefer something with an android base so I can have apps from kindle, kobo, bn and many others so that I purchase wirelessly from where ever I please.
