You should send the backup through iTunes and then reload the backup in the universal app through iTunes. Should better handle the large file size.

Well I gave up.. I attempted to backup etc a couple of more times with same results. So I bit the bullet, deleted the ipad version

, hooked up the calibre connect with the new version .... transfer smooth. All up to date....sigh..
