David Dalglish.

The Half-Orcs
Very DnD TT RPG for the magic system and overall feel. The first book has some first-time indie author pain which may fail criteria #1, but is free. Books 1-5 are in an extremely inexpensive bundle.

Shadowdance Trilogy
Haven't read it yet but there was a 99-cents for the trilogy deal at one time that could come around again one day. Spin off from the above.

No links since I'm in the US and don't know the good UK indie author sites.
Second vote for the Baen library -- David Weber's Oath of Swords comes to mind.
