In Japan, primary school students are expected to eat what ever they are served. No bringing lunch from home. Everyone eats the same thing, including the teachers, and everyone finishes what's on their plate. Peer pressure insures cooperation.

A long lingering memory....A teacher tried to force me to eat 'Spanish Omelet' from the school cafeteria when I was about 9 or 10 years old. I refused. It was like a block of rubber and there was no way in hell that I was going to put that in my mouth. The teacher sent me to the Principal's office for being 'bad.' They called my mother and made her come to the school planning to tell her to make me behave. Before they could get a word in, my mother ripped right into them, telling them that if they EVER tried to force me to eat something that I didn't want to eat, she'd bring them up on Child Abuse charges! Then told them that they were wasting her time, wasting MY learning time, wasting time the teacher could have been in the classroom doing what a teacher was supposed to do, and to never bother either her or me about such trivia again! And they didn't! Ya just don't mess with Mother Stitch!
