If your pdf is scanned image without ocr, you can still use zooming to content-width by using the two-point cropping to remove white margins, or you can use reflow mode or percentage zooming or do the quick ocr beforehand and use fit-to-content zooming for textual pdf's like these two.
Btw. your Thurston pdf link was not valid, so I've downloaded it from another site(43 MB, 358 pages, page size 8.5x11 inch, text proper size about 7x9 inch)

You are very convincing.
I'm trying to find parental control on the kindle and apparently amazon did add that in recently on the regular kindle, but I can't find anything on the dxg. Does anybody know more?
