"The Cheapskate" over at CNET has a
great deal today on a mobile wi-fi hot spot from Karma (through SocialStack). You get the hotspot device plus 1gb of starter data for $64.86. It's $69 at SocialStack but drops to $64.86 with the use of the coupon code: bf-sixer. Both Amazon and Karma are selling the same package right now for $99. You can buy additional data in 1gb increments for $14. Your unused data never expires, rolls over to the next month, and there are no contracts. It's pay as you go.
Two caveats:
1) Limited coverage. Be sure to check Karma's coverage on the map at Karma's site. The link is in the CNET article.
2) Karma will be going over to Sprint's LTE network in 2014. While coverage will improve, the devices they currently sell won't work at some point in the near future and you will need to buy another. However, they promise
here to offer "steep discounts" on the new LTE device to those who are already customers.
Because of that promise and good coverage where I live, I went ahead and ordered the device.
