The battery on my Wacom Intuos pen, which I keep carrying around and even occasionally using despite hating it and feeling cheated about paying 100 euros for it, has ran out just by sitting in my purse blinking its little blue light. I tried to replace it but couldn't find a AAAA battery last night.

So yes, I'd be wary of a powered stylus.
