I'll note that you skipped the next sentence in your quoting. But I will rephrase it:
Giving a user a way to officially install something says that you support that thing. And it doesn't matter how much you say that it is unsupported, support requests will come in.

"Littered"? How many is that? 1, 10 or 100? More? And how many were because they didn't follow the instructions? It is easy: Factory reset, connect to a PC and copy some files. If you don't do the factory reset, there is a good chance it will fail.
