Big companies invented the "focus group" studies where they test numerous groups of people and various products. It took a little while to get past the 3.5" screen size because people didn't realize how much browsing on the web could be done with a phone and of course many had been inoculated by the Steve Jobs ads. Now that the Large Display Genie has been released he/she/monkey won't go back into the bottle.

Small phones will still exist, yes. There are reasons for that, but it will be a miniscule market.
