I have created an 'expurgated' version of jswinden's fine letter and sent it directly to Mr. Bezos. (Removed a few WTF's - though I echo your sentiment!)

Mr. Bezos:
I only use this email address for serious issues, and I think that this rates your personal attention.
Concerning the 5.4.2 firmware update for the Paperwhite 2013:
Do you realize how utterly useless you have now made Collections on the Paperwhite 2013? Here are the problems.
(1) You force all the Cloud Collections onto the Paperwhite 2013 when the 5.4.2 update is installed. What if we don’t want every ancient collection we ever used on devices we no longer even own to be forced onto our Paperwhite 2013? Did you even consider that? You need to give us the option to select which Cloud Collections we place on our Paperwhite 2013. Some people have multiple Kindles and would like to have different collections on them, not every collection they ever created on every Kindle.
(2) You force all of the Cloud Collections onto our Paperwhite 2013 then you also force the display of every book/doc stored in the Cloud into those collections. Some people have thousands of books/docs in the Cloud but only want a few listed on their Paperwhite 2013. But now you force us to page through dozens of pages to find anything we look for. Give us the ability to turn off the displaying of all those Cloud book/docs so we can see what we have on our Paperwhite 2013!
(3) You now make any edits done to Collections on the Paperwhite 2013 automatically apply to the Cloud Collections. What if we want to have some collections on one device and different collections on another device? If we delete or rename a collection on the Paperwhite 2013, it is modified in the Cloud Collections and forced onto all of our applicable devices. Give us a Web Page where we can edit Cloud Collections rather than doing it directly from a device.
To reiterate, we need the following improvements to Cloud Collections. Do NOT force all of the Cloud Collections onto our devices. Give us the option to select the ones we want. Give us the ability to turn off the display of Cloud items that are listed within our collections on our devices. Give us a Web Page from which we can modify Cloud Collections rather than the confusing modification currently done on our devices.
Thank you for your immediate attention. This is quite possibly the worst 'improvement' ever inflicted on the Kindle.

Thank you Jack ... and anyone else - feel free to use or modify this version - let Amazon know how we feel.
