HarryT: after more research I, sadly, must agree. The majority of reviews I read make note of the subpar (at minimum, relative to the PaperWhite's) frontlight. It seems that on a deserted island (I prefer a dessert island myself) the Illumina HD's frontlight is fine (if a bit uneven), but next to the competition it's rather lacking. Sigh. High hope dashed...
