Don't open it yet. If all you've tried is what's in this thread, you haven't yet tried to do a factory reset.
Charge fully
Hold power button for 20-30 seconds to ensure device is off
Hold light button down. While holding it down, slide and release power button. See if the LED light goes disco-ball.
If not, repeat process.
If it's still under warranty, DON'T OPEN IT. Contact Kobo customer service by phone or live chat (not email). Reports on warranty service/replacement have shown a fair bit of improvement lately. They may just send you a return package.
