Seriously, I would go for the Nexus 7.2. It is better than the Fire. And, call me shallow, but I really like being able to change the wallpaper from black.
Or if you want to spend less, the Nook HD. (It has the card slot).
I think sending the HDX back was the right choice. It was obviously defective.
If you can afford to, get the 32gb Nexus. Although 16gb is probably fine.
