I actually found this one because the author did a guest post on Chuck Wendig's blog for his newest release,
Two Serpents Rising, which is the second in the series. I ended up reading the pair in two days. I suggest sampling first; I loved both (the second one a bit more), but not sure how widely they'll appeal. Amazing worldbuilding and well formed characters, plus some intricate plotting.
