i got my new kindle (paperwhite gen 2) and was using it for 3 days before the battery went low and I had to charge. i left it on the charger for 24 hours. when i woke up, the kindle had the "your kindle needs repair" screen which would no go away no matter how many times i rebooted the device. I contacted amazon support and they replaced it. Upon getting the new unit, the first thing i did (after registration) was to charge the device. This morning when I woke up, i'm back to the "your kindle needs repair" screen.
Amazon will be sending me a 3rd kindle (and again i need to return the defective unit) but the issue is getting annoying. Has any of you encountered this problem before?

Is it possible your charger is defective, broken or in some way incompatible with the Kindle, if the issue appears after the first charge?
Just to be safe, I would replace the charger and charging cable - maybe it has managed to fry your Kindles?
