Thanks for the reply, Kovid.
Below is a thread from the Facebook help forum - this is where I'm stuck.
Perhaps you have a more elegant solution than a 'book by book' reconstruction of a new library (my present library is 13GB!).
If this was you on Facebook, I apologize for the inconvenience.
Thanks in advance,
Emile

Using v1.10. Calibre recognizes location of my 'Calibre Library' but the contents do not show up in the main window upon opening the program.
Any suggestions appreciated.

A filesystem is a complex beast. Most network filesystems lack various filesystem features that calibre uses. Some dont support file locking, some dont support hardlinking, some are just flaky. Thanks for the reply. I performed the above and was left with the same blank slate without my library in the application. My Calibre Library folder is visible on the desktop (Mac OS X Maverick) and contains 13 GB of books. Any further ideas for rebuilding the metadata database so the application recognizes the folder?

Ok just click on the calibre icon (the one with the books) in the main toolbar and click on create switch library and then in the window that opens juste enter the location of your calibre library folder. I think it just lost the location somehow. If this does not work let me know.

One of the two steps above should have worked. You can try one more thing. You can create a new library and then use the add all the files from your old library by right
clicking the add books button and choosing add files from folder one book per folder.
