And any Windows 8/8.1 desktop/laptop can run the Kobo desktop and read that way. Albeit, it's not great as a reader, but it is functional. And there are lots of other options (calibre, ADE etc.). And my guess is that most people running Win 8 on anything other than a phone/tablet aren't using a lot of "apps" anyway, and those reading on desktops/laptops are probably a smaller portion of the ebook market than those reading on tablet/phone (where W8 isn't a big player -- and I say that as someone who loves his W8 tablet). I would suspect Kobo would know roughly how many are using it on W8 devices of any sort if only from sync's. If they aren't doing anything on it, that probably means it's not a big enough part of the market for them to cater to. Kobo is a lot smaller than Amazon (not withstanding the fact that they are owned by Raukten now, the Kobo division is still small) and only has so many resources to go around.
