Our library has an ongoing book sponsorship. New books are announced prior to coming into the library. If you want to be first/second/third to read the brand new book, donate a specific amount of money, and you are then the first on the list to read the book. If you donate the purchase price, your name goes into the as donated by (your name here) book plate. The new books once they come in, if they don't have a sponsor, go up on a special shelf for sponsorship. I was really surprised at how well this worked. After the 'sponsorship' time expired, the book was then put in regular circulation, and the next person on the regular waiting list would get the book.
