OK well I don't think there's any way to synch books not bought from B&N on the Nook, but I've never tired that with my Kindle either. I don't think I've actually side-loaded anything on my Kindle. I use it for Amazon purchases (and library books because I agree that it's easier to get library books on the Kindle than the Nook.)

Another check in Amazon's favor is that B&N doesn't have the greatest customer service, and Amazon's is really really good.
