But as you probably know:
1. Amazon KDP often rejects perfectly valid books generated with Calibre
2. KindleGen can obfuscate but not subset fonts
3. Free font subsetting tools often also mess with other font data

Maybe "optimize" is the wrong word, but unlike other ereader vendors, Amazon at least picked medium width default fonts. For example, the default font, PMN Caecilia LT
65 Medium, is a medium width font (usually
55 is regular and
75 bold) that also natively supports small caps and lots of special characters missing in RMSKD/ADE readers.
