Convert to AZW3 format for the Paperwhite. It will keep most, if not all format used in EPUB books, where MOBI will discard most of it.

The only problem I've found with this conversion is that the Kindle seems to be unable to handle very large dropcaps. If a letter becomes bigger than a certain size, the Kindle reverts it to the same size that is used by the body text.
