From SF Bay Area - sustainability - foreign languages - stealth publishing
Researching e-book readers, I keep coming back to MobileRead. This seems to be where it's all happening! Great information and I like even-handed moderation policy.
I'm a writer - journalist - editor - teacher in Palo Alto, an hour south of San Francisco, California. I worked for Hewlett Packard for about 20 years. Since 2004 I have been a co-editor for the sustainability website Resilience.org (formerly Energy Bulletin).
I'm particularly interested in e-books as a technology for sustainability. They enable texts to be published for readers world-wide, with a low carbon footprint.
And they are a way for non-mainstream voices to be heard.
I'm also interested in how ebooks might be used to open up the culture to different languages. I've learned several foreign languages, and it has always been a struggle to get good reading material in them.
What a revelation to see all the foreign language books available free! In the two weeks after my brother-in-law gave us his old Kindle Keyboard, I downloaded 300 foreign titles.
I'll probably be in lurk mode most of the time. Thanks to everyone and especially the techies for contributing to the conversation.
