The free first-of-a-series books have ended up costing me a lot!
However, I now rarely ever buy a book where I haven't read and liked the author for free, either a free book or from the library. At least now, when I do buy, I have good odds of really liking the book and so very few dollars are wasted. The free books also have expanded what I read and that has turned into a very nice thing.
