A few problems with new DR1000S
Although I just am delighted to have this Reader, I have experienced a few things - version 1.0 bugs I suppose, but I would like to know if others are experiencing any of the same things, or perhaps know how I could work around it until iRex updates a few things.
1. In the personal settings, although I choose to turn the sound OFF and lock the left side buttons, the sound remains ON and the left buttons remain enabled. Not a big deal, but still this expensive devise should work properly. AFTER SHUTTING THE DEVISE OFF FOR THE NIGHT, THIS MORNING THE DISABLE FOR THE SOUND WORKS.
2. The Mobipocket Dictionary does not work. I can open it - but if I use it, it crashes and the application must close. When I am in a document and go to look up a word, I receive a message that I need to put the dictionary in the System/Dictionary folder (as the manual states). It is. But the DR1000S does not recognize it. (The dictionary works perfectly on my computer.) And yes, I have the devise activated through Mobipocket, etc. So the issue isn't that.
3. I do not have any "Inbox Settings" that the manual refers to on page 66 for "Activate the inbox." What Inbox?
4. On page 64 of the manual, "Irex Companion Software - Documents", it says to copy files to "Click Copy to"...in the pop-up, choose the location."
I have Windows XP, I can right click and "Send to" but all allows me to do is to send it to the iRex DR1000, not any specific folder. Again, the directions do not match up to reality.
I feel I should be somewhat concerned because it is quite clearly stated, "Copying a folder to the device is not allowed because the database information the devise needs cannot be created. You can solve this by first creating a new folder and copying the files from the computer to the new folder." OK- I tried that too for the dictionary, no go.
5. On page 32, Changing the Views, the manual says to "choose Menu and choose the layout I wish to use." (I want the List view, not icons.) But again, I do not have any choices like that in Menu. (I just may be overlooking something here, but it should not be this difficult.) THE LIST VIEW I WAS LOOKING FOR IS LABELED "Details" UNDER THE MENU: VIEW. THANKS TO ALL FOR POINTING THIS OUT.
Lastly, it should be noted though, that everything that I've sent (many journal files with dozens and dozens of PDF files) all work perfectly. PERFECTLY. And I really do like this Reader.
However, I am a little puzzled by the above quirky things.
Any comments, suggestions, or ideas are welcome!
New Problem - Battery Life (or should I say, no life?)
Initially, the battery fully charged and I could see it as full by the icon for the first day I had the DR 1000S. However, since I turned it on yesterday, the light at the top stayed orange and the battery icon only showed about 2/3 full. I unplugged it and replugged in it. It stayed the same. For about 6 hours or more the light remained orange and the battery icon did not change. I also tried using another computer. No change.
In all yesterday the light stayed orange for more than 11 hours before I shut it down.
I turned it off and let it charge over night. I then unplugged it, waited a bit, then turned it on. All though the buttons and folders respond, today, I see that I have the dreaded blinking green light, and the battery icon still shows only 3 bars.
I let it run down completely - that took only 3 hours! Yes. Three hours. The functions all worked (except i still cannot disable the side or middle buttons!) and I read several long journal PDF articles. It shut itself off (as though I turned it off) at 12:37pm. At 1:10pm I plugged it in, waited for it to start (no SD card in it now) and then reset it. I waited for it to reboot - the device shows up on my computer.
It has been charging for more than one hour now. So far, the battery icon still remain completely blank (but there is a lightening bolt over it) and the top light is orange. According to iRex's manual, I should experience a full charge by approx. 4:30 this evening. (I am not using it - so it should be almost if not totally recharged.) I will keep you all posted - hopefully the advice to let it run completely down, reconnect and reset it will fix the issue.
