In the mean time for tonight, I'm thinking of trying to keep the Kindle Keyboard updated using Calibre and Kindle Collections, then see if the "Import Collections" function on the Paperwhite will import the collections  properly. I tried that quickly last night and I don't think it worked so well, but I restored the Paperwhite and will try it again right now.

Don't bother with the import collections feature, it is usually hit and miss what actually imports. Your best bet is to use the Calibre plugboard to give your collections a title that matches your collections, which makes re-creating them much easier.
