if you are saying "it boots" normally after that procedure, then I suspect your -vol button is not working right...
if you are saying "it boots" into USB mode (I.E nothing obvious happens) but isn't detected then I suspect your cable.
Just until the "green/yellow light" goes out is long enough. 30 secs is about 10 too long for that IIRC. Hope it helps
